Cherbourg umbrella factory

La Manufacture de parapluies de Cherbourg

Located on the waterfront close to the city center in the heart of a XIX century building revealing moldings and pilasters, the shop offers many luxury umbrellas suitable for all, gloves, hats, crystal, porcelain, small leather goods, high quality leather trunks and suitcases, silk, cashmere, jacquard linen, moire, many other French products form the Veritable Cherbourg brand presenting outstanding French savoir-faire. Jean-Pierre Yvon, creator of the brand, took care of the building layout and drawing custom furniture to give back to the building’s former glory. Installed in the heart of the building, the umbrellas are manufactured in hand under the public eye. You can extend the visit in the projection room « The Umbrellas of Cherbourg History », visit the Umbrella Museum and even take the time to drink at the Tea Room.

Saturday: 10 a.m to 7 p.m

Château et parc des Ravalet

Chateau des Ravalet

Located in Tourlaville, next to Cherbourg, this is a superb Renaissance style castle surrounded by a 17 hectare park ponds, outstanding trees and a magnificent 19th century greenhouse. The castle was built by the Ravalet family in 1575, the castle and the greenhouse are classified Historical Monuments. Come for a relaxing and pleasant walk !

The park is open everyday 

January, February, November and December: 8:30 a.m to 5 p.m

March, April, September, October: 8 a.m to 6:30 p.m

May, June, July, August: 8 a.m to 8 p.m

Tatihou Island

Hôtel Le Louvre Cherbourg - Ile Tatihou

In the bay of St Vaast la Hougue, the Tatihou Island allows the visitor to discover and understand the Norman coast through its maritime museum, its ornitological observatory, its shipbuilding workshop and its botanical garden.

The access to the Island is possible by boat from the port of St Vaast (the capacity is 58 people).

Opening hours:

You can take tickets from 4 April to 4 October, the office is open from 9 am to 12:30 pm and from 1:15 pm to 5:30 pm.

Departure everyday from 10 am to 12 pm and from 2 pm to 4 pm

Annual closure: Christmas holidays

The Roule mountain

Montagne-du-roule hotel-le-louvre

The « Roule » is a mountain overlooking Cherbourg. It dominates the city from its 120 meters. To reach the top, you can take the small path cut in the rock called « small ramps ». On the top of the mountain, you can enjoying an amazing view of Cherbourg! You can also see a fortress at the top of the mountain, classified as historical monument.

This is an unmissable place in Cherbourg.

Liberation museum

On the top of the Roule mountain, you can visit the Liberation Museum. From darkness into light, this Museum relates the years of the occupation before the liberation of Cherbourg. You can enjoying an amazing view of Cherbourg and learn many things about the story of the city.

Opening hours: 

The museum is open from Tuesday to Saturday from 10 am to 12 pm and from 2 pm to 6 pm.

Closed on mondays (for december and january) and bank-holidays accept 8/05 ans 11/11.

Prices 2016:

Adults: 4€  –  Reduced price: 2,50€  – Free on sundays & under 26 years

Parc Emmanuel Liais

Emmanuel Liais Park is a really beautiful park close to the hotel. With a surface area of one hectare, this garden boasts a large collection of exotic plants. In the greenhouses, over 400 species of plants are on display.

Opening hours: Free entrante everyday

Greenhouses are open from May to September only on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays from 10am to 12pm

Emmanuel Liais Museum

Surrounded by gardens of the park Emmanuel Liais, the museum displays curiosities, objects pertaining to natural history, archeology and ethnography from the five continents.

Opening hours: 

From 01/10 to 31/01: open from tuesday to saturday from 10 am to 12 am and from 2 pm to 5 pm.

From 01/02 to 30/09: open from Tuesday to Saturday from 10 am to 12 am and from 2 pm to 6 pm.

Closed on Mondays & bank-holidays
